This option is used mainly for wire coated breeds as most terriers are non-shedding. Their coats generally consist of two types of hair; the softer undercoat, and the longer wire top coat. Hand stripping is a process by where the dead hair is pulled out either by hand or a stripping knife. This process allows for a new wire coat to come in, whilst maintaining the colour and texture of the coat.
Hand stripping is extremely labour intensive and, therefore, more expensive, but has benefits not only in maintaining the proper breed 'look' for your dog, but also for your dog's skin and coat. I am happy to assess your pet's coat and tolerance for suitability for hand stripping.
This option includes:
Health check
Gentle ear cleanse
Handstrip the coat and remove the excess hair to enhance the coat's natural condition
Hygiene areas clipped (at owner's request)
Nail clipping
Please note: Your dog will not be bathed following a handstrip in order to minimise the chance of post-grooming furunculosis. I will, however, clean the coat with brushing powder and will be happy to offer your dog a free bath in a minimum of 2 weeks time.
